Salts Bowls Club

About Salts Bowls Club

Salts Crown Green Bowls club was formed in the 1930s by Mill owner Sir Titus Salt.

Over the years, it had a reputation of one of the best clubs in the district, running many teams at both seniors and juniors. However, the club went into decline in the early years of this decade and in 2009, the club members gave notice to quit the site.

The greens, surrounds and pavilion were in a bad state of repair, and Shipley Juniors decided to step in and renovate the facilities to try to ensure a future for bowls at the site.

Following substantial works that saw both greens brought back up to standard, new floodlights fitted, new rails all around both greens and the renovation of the pavilion including altering the interior to form one large sports pavilion used by the bowls , cricket and junior football sections, the area is now is a far more pleasant site to look at and sits right in front of the clubhouse.

Following these works, membership has now slowly risen up towards the 100 mark with the club running teams in leagues on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays in summer and Mondays and Wednesdays in winter.

The club runs and hosts the ‘Salts Winter League’ which sees 22 teams on a Monday and 22 on a Wednesday take part in organised games right through the winter season.

This event plays a big part in keeping the club going.

The aim is to continue to slowly grow the club to keep bowls as part of the association.
