Salts Football Club

About Salts Football Club

  • Salts FC and Shipley Juniors became one club in 2009.
  • The senior club was formed in the 1930s and the junior club in 1991.
  • The club currently has approx 550 players on its books.
  • Salts FC seniors have an 80-year history from the days when they were financed and managed by Salts Mill owner Sir Titus Salt. For the 2011-2012 season,  the club will be running the following:
  • 11 – Shipley Juniors 5-a-side teams
  • 8 –   Shipley Juniors 7-a-side teams
  • 2 –   Shipley Juniors 9-a-side teams
  • 13 – Shipley Juniors 11-a-side boys teams
  • 1 –  Salts FC Under 21 team
  • 2 –  Salts FC Saturday mens teams
  • 2 –  Salts FC Sunday mens teams
  • 1 –  Salts FC Veterans team

The club has also an Under 6′s section with the emphasis being on fun and trying to teach the players the basics. For the juniors, it gives a total ‘club for life’ meaning they can start at 5-years-old and play right through the juniors and step straight into the senior football. Both juniors and seniors feel this is a very positive move forwards.

The club became one of the first FA Chartermark clubs in the district, receiving the award in December 2001 following a lot of hard work to put together all the policies to comply with the criteria.

The clubs next step was to gain ‘FA Charter Development Club’ in 2003 and it achieved this in July 2003. We have now attained FA Chartered Community Club status, which we achieved in 2009 and makes us one of the few clubs in the district to have this award.

In 2007-2008, Shipley juniors were very proud to be awarded the Development Club of the Year awarded by the West Riding County FA, recognition that we felt we deserved.

In the 2010-2011 season, we were awarded the WRCFA ‘Outstanding Contribution to Community Football’ award.

The club also offers and encourages new managers and coaches the chance to attend the ‘FA Level 1′ course as soon as possible and then the Level 2.

The club currently has:

  • 64 – FA Level 1 coaches
  • 6 – FA Level 2 coaches
  • 3 – FA Level 3 Youth Module 1 coaches
  • 1 – FA Level 3 Youth Module 2 coach
  • 5 – FA Adult Level 1 coaches

We also try to send coaches on other courses and coaching demos and full details can be viewed in the ‘our coaches’ section of website.

Our coaches are required to become CRB- (criminal records bureau) checked in line with child protection policies.

The club is involved in a foreign exchange and hosts players from the German team of Aplerbeck which is a district of Dortmund. The players host at U12 and travel to Germany at U13. This exchange has been going for 12 years.

The clubs main fundraising events is the annual Shipley Juniors 5-a-side tournament which is held at Sandals Primary School in Baildon.
